The Bayview Hunters Point Democratic Club has changed the name of the organization to the Harvey Matthews Bayview Hunters Point Democratic Club to honor the former president and community member Harvey Matthews.

Harvey Matthews was a Bayview Hunters Point community hero. In 1970 he co-founded the first African American bank in San Francisco called Time Savings and Loans with former San Francisco Giant Willie Mayes, Doctor LS. Kimbrough the founding president, and James Stratton. Realizing the benefits of solar energy, Harvey worked to provide elderly Bayview Hunters Point residents with free solar panels. Each day Harvey woke up with a dream to make his community a better place.
